Springfield/East Lane County: 541-741-7925

The United States Fire Administration (USFA) has pointed out that we have what they call a “fire problem;” we know what causes fires and have the means to prevent these fires, yet we still suffer from fires both large and small.

Slightly over half the residential fires come from cooking. The second-most cause (heating) isn’t even close to the frequency of kitchen-related fires at just over 9% of the fires. Even accounting for the difference in how often we cook vs. how often we use heaters and furnaces, it’s clear that the best way to prevent fires is to be more attentive while preparing meals.

Our team members at Springfield/East Lane County combed through the suggestions of the experts at the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to present the best ways to prevent fires. We admit that we make the same mistakes as most people, but we hope to do better as even small fires can cause substantial damage to people’s homes. If a fire does get out of hand, call us at 541-741-7925 at any time.

Prevention in the Kitchen:

  • Set timers – you can’t predict whether children, pets, or other distractions will take you away from the kitchen and help you lose track of time
  • Don’t leave anything that you are frying or boiling unattended – ever
  • Keep towels, wood, paper, and other flammables away from the heat
  • Wipe up grease spills – grease can ignite at certain heats without being exposed to a direct flame

We are Here to Help® all day, every day.
